In 2016 i was invited to curate a space at a beach cafe in West Cork for the summer period. I invited various artists to interact with the space and locality.
As a starting point i delivered a workshop called SPACE SHAPERS first in a series of art workshops for adults and families living locally or that have an interest in the locality. The intention is that the community become the significant 'SHAPERS' in what this space should become. At this initial workshop we were joined by a diverse cross section of the community from toddlers to hill walkers, birdwatchers, engineers, folklorists and a politician, all of whom were interested in exploring new means to engage with their surroundings.
In each preceding workshop we used a series of art activities both indoors and outdoors that allowed us to engage with the surroundings and define what having a rural project space like this means or can become. We invited both local, national and international artists to participate in the development of the space.
Artists Sarah O'Brien, Joanne Boyle, Caroline Byrne and the San Francisco based LighterThanAir project all led workshops and interacted with the space.
